”This walk covers the Vila-a-Dentro of Tavira.  We shall visit the major buildings within the ancient town walls, and discuss the history which has affected the town from Islamic times to the present day.  A major influence on the shape of the town is the behaviour of the River Gilão, and the way in which shipping could access the port of Tavira. We shall also touch on the history of piracy in the region, and the continuing differences with the neighbouring kingdom of Morocco.”
